Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why Volunteer?
Should you wish to become more involved, there are various voluntary roles that you can participate in, new friends to meet, and a companionable atmosphere for all.
The organisation is run by a Committee of Management with help from other volunteers from within the membership.
Q: I am already a Member of U3A Southern Peninsula – Why should I volunteer?
U3A Southern Peninsula is run completely by volunteers, such as our tutors, office staff, committee, catering team, maintenance team etc. Our volunteers are the backbone of U3A. Without them our organisation could not exist.
Q: What roles are there for Volunteers?
Almost anything that you can think of.
You might like to spend a couple of hours each week or fortnight manning the desk in the office, or helping with the quarterly mail out of the newsletter. You might prefer to help our catering team.
Perhaps you would like to join our committee and assist in the management of our organisation.
Maybe you could manage our network, website or Facebook page.
If you are handy with a screw driver, you could help out with maintenance.
Q: How much of my time would it take?
How much time are you prepared to spend?
We have volunteers who spend a couple of hours a week or fortnight, others who spend some time almost every day. Some are on call only at certain times. Some volunteers are able to do most of the work from home.
It all depends on the role that you choose to take and the time you have available.
Some examples:
• Office volunteer – average of 2 hours per week
• Catering team – baking/cooking and serving at several functions throughout the year
• Committee member – 3 hour monthly meeting plus other responsibilities that consume varying amounts of time. Click here for more information.
Q: What about when I travel?
The thing about being a volunteer is that you say when you are available. Many of our volunteers travel or take time for grandparent duty. You call the shots!
